What do I wear?
The Headshot Prep Guide we send to your prior to your email goes into more detail about this. However, a few quick tips:
1. BRING OPTIONS!
The best thing anyone can do to prepare for their session is to bring options. We all know what colors we look best in. Start there and then eliminate anything shiny or that has a bold print. Simple is better and some colors look better with different backdrops. We will figure this out together!
2. Don’t hesitate to snap a few shots of what you’re thinking of bringing and text them to me for feedback.
Company Matching
If your company has a specific background color to match—or you’ve seen something online that you love—we can usually recreate the background color with no problem.
However, when it comes to lighting, we use a very strategic setup that’s a big part of why our images look so polished and professional. We won’t change that lighting style, as it’s key to maintaining the high-quality results we’re known for. Feel free to text or email us with any inspiration you’d like us to consider.
Necktie?
If you wear a tie every day, then yes—you should probably wear one in your headshot. For everyone else, it’s usually better to leave the tie at home.
If you’re planning to get multiple shots, a tie can work as a nice accessory (when tied well), but I wouldn’t recommend it as your only look. If you do go with a tie, stick to something subtle without bold or distracting patterns—and always bring a backup, just in case.
Make-up Artist?
We believe in make-up artist over here and for women we highly recommend adding it on when booking! However, it isn’t required.
If you decide to not book with a makeup artist, please follow the tips in the headshot guide.
No bold, fake lashes or bold lips. Remember, these images are retouched. We do work to enhance your natural look, just like makeup. So just because you know you’re going to be in front of a camera, doesn’t mean you need to pile your makeup on.
Photoshop is always a way to “add more” makeup. If you want to add a makeup artist to your session, you have the option to add it when booking!
Retouching?
Most clients want to look younger, slimmer, and more polished—who wouldn’t?
When I retouch your images, my goal is to make you look like the best version of yourself on your best day. You magically got the perfect amount of beauty sleep, are hydrated, etc. Retouching means taming flyaway hairs, glasses glare if you wear them, softening fine lines, evening out skin tones, brightening eyes, teeth whitening and smoothing any bumps, lint, or gaps in clothing.
If requested, I can take it a step further for an even more refined result—at no additional charge. And remember, every image you purchase includes professional retouching as part of the experience.
Rescheduling?
Life happens, things come up, and updating your headshot isn’t usually a life or death situation. I would rather reschedule your session than have you come in preoccupied or in a rush to leave. I have a 24 hour rescheduling policy which means as long as you reschedule your session with 24 hours notice, there is no penalty or cost to you. If you need to reschedule at the last minute (less than 24 hours notice) there’s a 50% session fee rescheduling fee.
